Order Now: using infomercials to sell CDs
This is the ad for the new* album by Weezer, the US rock group. I guess this is one way of selling CDs in the age of MP3s and rampant piracy - bundle your album with a blanket:
I don’t know if this ad is actually being broadcast, or if it’s just a clever YouTube-only thing. Watching the Weezer ad, though, reminded me of the infomercials the Beastie Boys did for their album, Hello...

I made this energy cost calculator to work out how much I’m going to have to pay when the next bill comes. It should work for anyone’s data.
SoftFacade - nice (commercial) icon design group →
Just randomly found SoftFacade, a team of icon and UI designers working in Saint Petersburg, Russia, who’ve done some pretty impressive work, judging by their porfolio.
QR cupcakes →
Cupcakes with QR codes printed on them, which direct users to the originating organisation’s website when scanned with the appropriate software (via BoingBoing).
I’m always wary of using QR codes, except in a geek-friendly context, since it’s unlikely most viewers are going to have the appropriate software on their mobile device, or even grasp the concept of a QR code.

An interesting file courtesy of Geobytes. Could be useful for projects involving geography or mapping - the file loads up nicely in OpenOffice calc or Excel if you open it as CSV.

I was following Rentokil’s incursions into Twitter with interest over the last week or two, and @bengoldacre’s simultaneous investigations into the dubious nature of some of the stats in their press release. A good example of how not to do Twitter.
